Stuck at an Intermediate Level?
Do you feel like you use the same word all the time? Are you still struggling to understand conversations on television?
One way to jumpstart improvement is by amping up your vocabulary in specific topics. That means learning the phrasal verbs, collocations and expressions needed to talk fluently in that topic with a native speaker.
Each lesson is based on audio from 5-Minute English episodes.
How will I learn?
This course has various sections that will enable you to hear and learn topic-specific vocabulary in different contexts.
- First, you'll hear words in context in an intensive reading assignment.
- Secondly, you'll hear and work with the definitions and NEW example sentences.
- Thirdly, you'll be forced to use these words and phrases in targeted exercises and quizzes.
- Fourthly, you'll be given a REAL video about the topic to think about and explore.
This course teaches you how to learn effectively as each step is supplements the step before it. One week should be ample time to complete all of the exercises and assignments if you dedicate at least 20-30 minutes per day.
Is this course right for me?
Many learners struggle because they don't know where to begin. They feel overwhelmed by the amount of content online and on social media that they hop around in an unstructured way.
If you have an intermediate-advanced level in English and are looking to enhance your language ability through self-study, this is for you.
Work on Your Language Skills
Teachers will often tell you that repetition is key to successful learning. The problem is that repetition of the same content can be boring!
In this course, repetition of key vocabulary and phrases is presented in a variety of dynamic, hands-on steps.
Each step builds on the next, so that by the end of the week, you will have gained exposure to key vocabulary and phrases a number of times.
Exercises, quizzes, pronunciation, reading, listening, watching and writing. Whatever language skill you'd like to develop, it's here.
Listen and Read
Downloadable PDF transcripts are provided for ALL lessons, so that you can listen and read away from your computer.
Key vocabulary and phrases are highlighted so that you can relocate them easily.
Three of the four steps contain audio and text for you to practice pronunciation.
Key words and phrases are read slowly with supplementary images to facilitate mastery of the terms.
The best way to know if you've mastered the key vocabulary is by doing exercises and quizzing yourself.
Since many learners have difficulty remembering prepositions, extra attention has been paid to these in each lesson.
Upon completion there will be 12 lessons.
About Your Teacher
My name is Shana and I’m an ESL teacher from California.
Over the past 10 years, I’ve been fortunate to share my love of English in Brazil, Spain, Germany, and throughout the US. Having taught over 3,000 online and in-person lessons, I’ve become obsessed with how to make the intermediate student's learning experience effective and memorable.
Apart from teaching, I like to bake, hike and I’m an avid language learner. I love listening to German and French podcasts and chatting with my husband Lucas and our two daughters in Portuguese!
